The greatest benefit of the Ranger Plates is their low profile. Adding no bulk to the outside dimensions of the magazine body, the Ranger Plates will fit in some magazine carriers that are too snug for standard MagPuls. They also add less height, allowing them to fit pouches whose flaps were too short to close with standard MagPuls.
